Is Andrew Marttila Married to the Kitten Lady?

Andrew Marttila is married to the famous, Kitten Lady. Hannah Shaw, also known as the Kitten Lady, and Andrew were married in April 2023 at a farm refuge in California. Animals were an integral part of the ceremony and reception. From pigs to goats and, of course, kittens, human and animal guests were treated during the glamorous event.

The two are partners in more ways than one. Andrew helps run the Orphan Kitten Club with Hannah. The nonprofit organization in San Diego, California, helps kittens in need. They work with neonatal kittens and offer funding to shelter kittens in need of medical assistance. In addition, they help fund ethical veterinary pediatrics research. You’ll also see many of Andrew’s photos on their website and materials.

How Did Andrew Marttila’s Cat Photography Career Begin?

Andrew Marttila’s cat photography career began as a natural extension of his deep passion for cats. He’s actually extremely allergic to animals, including cats, dogs, pigs, and horses. But while living with his grandmother’s cat in his early 20s, he fell in love with her fur baby. He became aware of how loving, entertaining, and full of personality and life felines are.

After some time he got his own cat, a Bengal kitten named Haroun. He got a Bengal because he was told they’re hypoallergenic, however, later learned that wasn’t entirely true.

It was due to Haroun that Andrew’s photography career was born. He had the desire to document the kitten growing up, so he borrowed his roommate’s camera and started snapping photos. And the rest is history!

If you’re a cat lover but are allergic, you can do things like regular vacuuming your house and grooming your fur baby to keep allergens to a minimum.

How Does Andrew Marttila Deal With Allergies as an Animal Lover?

Allergies are no friend of an animal lover, but Andrew makes it work. After a couple of years of frequent asthma attacks, his body started to cope with the allergens from cats. While he still has to take allergy medication and inhalers and keep air filters throughout the house, he’s committed to making it work so he can have animals in his life.

Dealing with allergies around cats can be challenging, but there are several strategies you can employ to minimize your symptoms and enjoy a comfortable coexistence with feline companions. Regularly vacuuming and dusting your home can help eliminate cat dander, the primary allergen responsible for triggering reactions. Also, investing in a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter can help remove allergens from the air. You may also want to establish cat-free zones within your living space, such as bedrooms, to give you some relief. In addition, bathing your cat regularly can significantly reduce allergen levels in their fur.

Consulting with an allergist who can provide personalized advice and suggest appropriate medications to alleviate symptoms may also be helpful. Remember that managing allergies around cats typically requires a combination of preventive measures, cleanliness, and potential medical interventions to create a more allergy-friendly environment for everyone involved.

How Is Andrew Marttila Advocating for Homeless Cats?

Andrew Marttila is constantly advocating for homeless cats. Through his books and social media presence, he’s showing the world that kittens and older cats shouldn’t be euthanized or displaced just because they have a medical or special need. He’s making people aware of the value of a cat’s life and how we can all help save them and help get them to forever homes.

He and his partner, the Kitten Lady, foster kittens and he plays a vital role in their kitten nursery. He’s a caregiver for neonatal kittens and serves on the Orphan Kitten Club Board of Directors.
