Technology is ever-growing in the pet industry. From self-cleaning cat litter boxes to dog fitness trackers, innovation is the name of the game. We look at the best pet inventions from CES 2023 in this article.
Get ready to be amazed! Let’s dig in.
What Is CES?
CES (Consumer Electronic Show) is a global tech event. It’s where the who’s who of the industry’s best brands and innovators introduce their latest technology. The Consumer Technology Association runs the event, and each year it takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
You’ll find products from every corner of the tech sector. Categories include 3D printing, mobile hardware and accessories, cybersecurity, digital health, drones, and more. Sprinkled throughout these categories are pet inventions that are helping veterinarians, trainers, and other animal professionals, as well as pet owners. Every year, CES reveals new pet inventions to eager animal enthusiasts.
Media and companies meet to do business, create partnerships, and attend presentations about global trends in technology. For one weekend each year, the world practically buzzes with the explosion of new innovations revealed.

Does Technology Improve the Lives of Pets?
Similar to how technology can improve the lives of humans, it can also give our pets better lives. And while CES is largely about innovations for humans, pets are a big part of many people’s lives. Innovations that help pets ultimately help us too. For example, the pet continuous glucose monitor, which we share later in this article, is a technological innovation that directly impacts the health of cats and dogs. By keeping our pets healthier, they live longer and that makes us happy.
Science and technology continue to evolve and play an essential role in our lives and the lives of our pets. From health monitors to location trackers, technology can help our pets live longer, happier lives. It can also change the way we interact with our pets, and what we actually consider a pet.
The 9 Best Pet Inventions From CES 2023
There were numerous technological advancements and new product launches at CES 2023. And several innovations within the pet industry were standouts. Let’s look at nine of the best pet tech inventions that will blow your mind!
iLume Pet Fitness Tracker & Smart Bowl
The iLume Pet Fitness Tracker and Smart Bowl allow you to track your dog’s activity and provide health insights. It also allows for calorie-based feeding, which directly impacts your pet’s health. We often overfeed, and sometimes underfeed, our dogs without even realizing it.
How it works is that your dog wears the iLume smart collar, which has a fitness tracker. iLume assesses the calories your dog needs using the data you input and the data from the fitness tracker. So, it connects to the smart bowl to provide the correct caloric estimates for each meal.
The idea is that you don’t have to worry about measuring food or figuring out how much energy your pet has burned. This way, your pet will never be under or overfed, leading to weight loss or gain. A healthy weight can go a long way towards keeping joints and organs healthy longer.
Self-Cleaning Litter Box
The Whisker Litter Robot is a massive help to cat parents. It changes your cat’s litter box for you. And the automated, self-cleaning technology has a carbon filter that reduces odors. It’s also WiFi-enabled with an app that alerts you to your cat’s activity in the litter box.
How it works is once your cat is finished doing its business, a timer counts down to about one minute, giving the litter even time to clump. Then, the cylinder inside the robot rotates and separates the clump for the clean litter. The clumps go into a waste drawer below the litter box. And you simply put the contents of the waste drawer into your garbage about once a week.
It’s a revolutionary time saver for cat parents! Just ask Jenna Fischer, star of The Office TV show and rescue cat champion. She shares how much it’s changed her life.

PetNow Pet ID App
PetNow Inc. developed an AI-driven app that scans unique identifiers of dogs. At CES 2023, they unveiled an addition to the app, a cat biometric recognition service. It helps find lost cats, sort of like a pet Amber Alert and is an alternative to microchipping. The cat biometric recognition has 99% accuracy, according to Dr. Ken Daehyun Pak, co-founder of PetNow.
The PetNow app is free to households with cats or dogs. You can find it in the Apple Store and on Google Play.
Pet Robots
Does your pet need a companion? Pet robots are new inventions that occupy your dog or cat when you’re not around. And they can keep you company too and bring you some smiles. Two innovative robots that were released at CES 2023 are Loona and Dog-E.
Loona is a smart petbot designed to mimic the behavior of a real dog or cat. She comes when you call her name and responds to some commands such as “sit” and “go to sleep”.
She can also keep your pets company when you’re away. You can track and control her via your phone. She has a camera and speakers so you can monitor your pets.
Loona can simultaneously recognize up to 20 faces and find you in a crowd. And she has an LCD screen face to show emotions. She costs a little over $400.
Dog-E is a robotic pet with different personalities and colors, and it displays words and emoticons when it wags its tail. In fact, it has over one million combinations of colored lights, sounds, and personality traits you can tap into.
It connects to an app from which you can train it to learn your name, perform movements, and more. Dog-E is less expensive than Loona at around $80.
FluentPet
FluentPet is a hexagon-shaped plastic mat with buttons. You can train your dog to push certain buttons that indicate different things, such as “I’m hungry” and “I need to go outside”. The technology also notifies you, via its app, when your dog presses a button and how much each is used.
The FluentPet is meant to allow your dog to communicate with you in a new way, and it’s also a puzzle of sorts for stimulation. How it works is you record your voice speaking into a button. For example, you say “outside” into one of the buttons. Then put that hexagon mat with the button by the door. You can then train your dog to hit that button whenever it needs to go outside. The possibilities are nearly endless.
Cotons Sense 1 Smart Health Collar
Cotons AI introduced the Cotons Sense 1 Smart Health Collar at CES 2023. It provides real-time health alerts that go to an app on your phone. The dog collar can detect various diseases and health problems using AI software.
The collar has five sensors that check a dog’s temperature, pulse, and respiration around the clock. It can also detect if your dog is urinating, pooping, drinking, eating, vomiting, or coughing. By tracking this data, you may be able to detect subtle signs of illness much earlier.
The South Korean company also works with veterinarians to integrate the technology into vet clinics so they have real bio-history, instead of relying on owners to describe why they’ve noticed. Since pets are notorious for hiding their true feelings and not being able to speak, this could go a long way in improving diagnosis and early detection of disease.
Cotons Sense 1 Pro Suit
Cotons AI also invented the Cotons Sense 1 Pro Suit. It fits around a dog’s torso and is for post-operation care by veterinarians. The breathable, stretch fabric holds a monitor that provides the dog’s biometrics in real-time from a smartphone, which the owner and vet can link to.
The Pro Suit and Cotons Sense 1 Smart Health Collar are currently available in South Korea but are expected to be launched in other countries soon. This technology has the potential to ease post-surgery recovery and assist vets in monitoring the conditions of critically ill patients. The more accurate and real-time results could mean the difference between life and death.

AI for Pet Health Photo App
AI for Pet Health Photo App was named CES 2023 Innovation Awards Honoree for TTcare. After taking their photo, the app supposedly identifies signs of disease and health problems in dogs and cats.
AI software detects eye, skin, or joint-related conditions that may exist, which may allow you to get to a vet for treatment at an earlier stage than without the technology. It claims that it will enable eye and skin health checks using the camera on your phone. Having technology like this in your pocket could be extremely helpful for monitoring your pet’s condition and tracking changes over time.

GluCurve Pet Continuous Glucose Monitor
GluCurve Pet CGM is the first and only continuous glucose monitoring system for diabetic cats and dogs. It is designed to be used by veterinarians. When available, the vet will be able to send a patient home with the CGM applied. The pain-free monitor for pets, an alternative to blood draws, is applied to the back of the animal’s neck.
At home, the device will monitor glucose levels every 3 minutes for up to 14 days. Veterinarians can access the GluCurve online portal to monitor their patients anytime during the monitoring. It organizes the data collected to reduce the time spent calculating insulin dosages. The data collected helps veterinarians fine-tune their insulin regulations like never before through diet, exercise, and insulin injections.

Is CES Open to the Public?
Unfortunately, CES is only open to individuals affiliated with the tech industry and media. So, if that’s not you, you’ll have to wait to learn about all the fantastic innovations introduced at the annual event. You also won’t be able to see these items in action until possibly much later. Many of the products and ideas released at CES are in the early stages of rollout out if even out of the concept phase.
However, you can get updates via the CES website and the articles they publish. More and more pet inventions are launched each year, so keep an eye out! The hardest thing will be waiting until they come to a vet office or pet store near you.
