Sookie and Ivy are a pair of senior Staffordshire Terrier mixes who’ve been charming the internet for years. They’re the adorable crochet dog hat models that you may have seen when scrolling through social media, with sassy woofs and burps to their dog mom in protest of some of the strange foods she feeds them and makes them wear. Whether you love them for their cute hats, their patience when being dressed up, or their ASMR crunching of treats, there is more to this internet sensation story than meets the eye. We take a peak behind the scenes to learn more about the duo and their human parent.
Let’s take a look!
Who Are Sookie and Ivy?
Sookie and Ivy are a pair of rescued senior dogs. Sookie was adopted in 2011 when she was eight months old, after spending only one day in a local SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). She was surrendered by her previous owners to the shelter.
Ivy was adopted in 2013 from Orange County Animal Services. She was between six and ten months old at the time and was found wandering near the airport. Suffering from an upper respiratory infection and skin infection, she didn’t meet her new sibling, Sookie, for three weeks. But when they finally met, they became fast friends.
Sookie and Ivy are both Staffy mixes, a mixture of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier with another breed of dog. And they’ve become Internet sensations thanks to their adoptive pet parent, Jani, and her unique hobby and love of crocheting dog hats of interesting shapes.
Who Owns Sookie and Ivy?
A woman named Jani owns Sookie and Ivy. She talks about how she rescued the two dogs, but in reality, they rescued her. Our pups have a way of doing that, don’t they?
Jani is a self-taught crocheter and started her blog to share crochet tutorials. While her intent was to help others learn the craft, the attention quickly turned to her dogs, who modeled her pieces. Therefore, she began dedicating her social media presence to Sookie and Ivy.
She’s known for crocheting cute and fun dog hats. But Jani also makes and sells various other products that you can find in her Etsy store.
What Are Sookie and Ivy Known For?
Sookie and Ivy are known to the public for being crochet dog hat models. They’ve become famous on social media platforms such as TikTok, with over a million followers. And after having only joined YouTube in 2022, they have over 33,000 subscribers and growing.

Jani also posts videos of the dogs eating different treats while wearing a crocheted hat version of the treat. You can often see the different reactions between Sookie and Ivy to the taste of the food. Sometimes one likes it or dislikes it more than the other. Plus, they have a small microphone close to their mouths, making for a dog twist on ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) eating. We share some favorites coming up later in this article.
Sookie and Ivy Are Helping to Break Stereotypes of Bully Breeds
Staffordshire Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers have been notoriously associated with fighting and aggression, are often grouped with American Pit Bull terriers due to their similar boxy heads and muscular frames. With their gentle and patient dispositions, Sookie and Ivy are breaking stereotypes of Staffy and bully breeds. Their sweet nature and fun-loving nature are dispelling stigmas and helping create a new picture of these breeds.
The humorous nature of Jani’s videos and photos of Sookie and Ivy are helping to positively elevate the breeds away from their old stereotypes.
Jani said: “The message we are trying to get across through social media is that pit bulls are not the monsters the media portrays them to be. I try to catch photos that portray them in a goofy, fun way. Through sharing photos and videos, we’ve had people tell us that they’ve grown to love and adore pit bulls. That is our main goal — to raise PAWsitive pit bull awareness.”
What Are Some of Sookie and Ivy’s Best Videos?
We’ve compiled three of Sookie and Ivy’s best videos. Each is of the two dogs sitting at a table with a little microphone in front of them. They’re wearing a crocheted hat in the shape of a piece of food.
Then, Jani gives them a real version of that food to eat and captures their reaction. Watch all three videos to see how Sookie and Ivy react! Jani posts commentary throughout the videos to symbolize what the dogs might be thinking.
Sookie is the white dog. She’s more chill and much less of a picky eater than Ivy. The black dog is Ivy. She’s goofy, a bit of a picky eater, and gives off the impression that she’s thinking sarcastic thoughts. Be sure to wait until the end of each video because sometimes Ivy clowns around and makes a snide comment about her human, Jani.
Blueberry Sookie & Ivy
This video shows Sookie and Ivy in fashionable blueberry hats. Jani feeds them each a blueberry. Watch to see what they think of the fruit. Spoiler alert! Ivy isn’t particularly fond of the taste, even when Jani gets creative by making a little game out of treat time.
Broccoli Sookie & Ivy
The broccoli hats the girls wear in this video are very cute and creative. But do dogs like broccoli? Sookie is happy to crunch on the vegi. But Ivy acts like a toddler being forced to chew on food before getting down from the table. She thinks it’s “friggin” ghastly. Oh, Ivy, you always make us laugh.
Dragon Fruit
This video shows Sookie and Ivy in pink dragon fruit crocheted hats. Of course, Sookie likes real dragon fruit. We’re convinced she’ll eat anything. But Ivy, on the other hand, prefers to spit it out. Jani even attempts to measure the distance in which she can spit out food. Get ready to laugh watching this one!
