Sophie the Sweetheart 🩷 – Adopted!!

Sophie is a roughly 6-year-old spayed female who came into our lives unexpectedly, but she’s made a lasting impression on everyone who’s met her. She’s sweet, gentle, goofy, and resilient. With her expressive eyes and soft brindle coat, Sophie is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. She just wants to be loved and included, and she’s got endless love to give in return.

What Makes Sophie Special

Sophie has a fused right rear leg from a prior injury (believed to be from being hit by a car). Her leg is fused straight, but she is fully mobile, able to do stairs, jump into vehicles, and even run and play. It gives her an endearing little “skip” gait, and she handles it like a champ. It slows down her speed, but she can still zoom-y like no one’s business!

Despite her rough past, Sophie is SO loving and trusting. She is good with other dogs (even picky ones), loves kids, and is with cats. She’s housebroken aside from some lingering medical issues that may relate to incontinence, but she does not pee in her crate and has only had occasional accidents when she couldn’t hold it. She rides perfectly in the car and traveled from downstate to the U.P. in a motorhome like a pro.

Current Health

Sophie came to us after battling a systemic infection and other health challenges that likely led to her being given up. With love and care, she’s made a remarkable recovery and left her struggles behind.

When outside, she likes to go frequently. While the cause of this needs to be confirmed by a vet, I suspect that after a long time of irritation, she may have formed the habit of going often when she can. Poor baby!

Today, Sophie is a vibrant, playful, and affectionate girl who takes everything in stride. She’s healthy, thriving, and ready for the forever home she deserves — one where her sweet spirit and joyful personality can truly shine.

The Ideal Home

Sophie is the kind of dog who can thrive just about anywhere. She’s wonderful with other dogs, does well with cats, and is gentle with kids. She’s also great off leash, sticking close and checking in often, and she absolutely loves car rides.

As a calmer, older gal, Sophie is past the puppy chaos but still enjoys playtime, exploring, and soaking up attention. She’d be just as happy in a home with a yard and other pets as she would be in a smaller space with a single person — what matters most to her is love and companionship.

Wherever she lands, Sophie is ready to bring her sweet, steady presence and joyful spirit to her forever family.

Foster/Adoption Interest

We are open to foster-to-adopt, rescue partnerships, or permanent adoption for the right match. Sophie is currently in foster care and will remain with us until a suitable solution is found. Transport assistance is available for the right home or rescue.

Cait Morton of HypePets

Meet Cait - a lifelong animal lover who has had furry (and scaly) companions by her side since childhood. She's had it all, from family pets to caring for class reptiles during school breaks, to even owning her first horse at just 12 years old. She swears that her late soul dog, Mocha, helped her survive her Business Management degree. Cait has spent over a decade working in animal shelters, doing everything from taking care of furry friends to running the show as an assistant manager, to providing guidance as a board member. She's got a serious case of the animal welfare bug, and she's not afraid to use it! When she's not busy saving animals, Cait is known for being one-half of the 'Mortons on the Move' RV and travel blog and YouTube channel. She stars alongside her husband, Tom, on the Discovery and PBS TV show 'The RVers'. She and Tom, along with their two rescue dogs Luna and Solar, travel full-time by RV and explore all that the world has to offer. Cait started HypePets because of her passion for pets and her love for rescue dogs and cats. She wants to make a difference by helping new adopters ease their furry friends' transition into their new homes. So join her in the wonderful world of pets, and let's make a difference together!
