What Is The Asher House?
The Asher House is a nonprofit animal sanctuary in Oregon. It rescues and rehabilitates abused and abandoned animals and provides them with a permanent home at the sanctuary. And they also provide resources and education through a YouTube channel and rescue network.
The organization was started by Lee Asher, who quit his job as a corporate trainer to travel the country in an RV with his rescue dogs to visit animal shelters. The purpose of his RV trip was to raise awareness about pet adoption. After the trip, Lee found land in Oregon to develop the sanctuary for his rescues.
Where Is The Asher House Sanctuary Located?
The Asher House is in Estacada, Oregon. The sanctuary is on Lee Asher’s, the founder, personal property, so visits are prohibited at this time. However, they are in the process of getting more land that would allow for visits and volunteers. Once that’s established, Lee is hoping to provide periodic tours.
What Is the Story Behind The Asher House?
Lee Asher, his best friend Luke Barton, and his rescue dogs traveled across 49 states for over two years in his RV beginning in 2018. The vision for the journey was to promote dog adoption and animal shelters. They also hosted community events to allow people to interact with Lee’s dogs. We personally followed their journey as we have been traveling full-time in an RV as well.
They regularly stopped at shelters and rescue organizations to encourage and help where needed. Since Luke is a photographer, they took photos of dogs in shelters needing homes and posted them on social media. They would typically request to meet the animals that had been there the longest to ensure their information was shared with potential adopters.
During the RV journey, they were able to help about 200 dogs find furever homes. Lee and Luke were also featured on The Ellen Show during their RV project.

As Lee was on his way back to Los Angeles, California, his hometown, he stopped in Oregon. There, his pitbull, Stella, got sick and passed away. After her passing, he set out to create a sanctuary for animals to feel treasured, protected, and free.
He bought a parcel of land in 2020 to fulfill his vision. Since then, he’s created awareness, education, and a brand around the sanctuary and his rescue animals.
What Is the Mission of The Asher House Sanctuary?
The Asher House sanctuary seeks to help people have better days and get animals adopted. They’re on a mission to make the world a better place through rescue. They serve as a sanctuary for dogs, cats, and other farm animals that have nowhere else to go.
The Asher House also occasionally facilitates adoptions of pets living at the sanctuary. But they mainly help promote the adoption of animals through partner organizations. Most of the animals at the Asher House sanctuary have a place there for the rest of their lives.

How Has The Asher House Been So Successful?
The Asher House has found success initially through personal meet-ups with people around the country during their RV tour. They started to form a community that has grown into hundreds of thousands that follow them online.
Since it’s beginning, they’ve developed a following on social media and YouTube. And in 2019, Lee and Luke’s appearance on The Ellen Show introduced them to a global audience.
The newfound “fame” of sorts led to projects such as a TV show on Animal Planet called, My Pack Life. Lee hosts the show which you can watch on Discovery Plus.
The Asher House is a non-profit organization and is funded largely by sponsorships and Patreon. The patrons that support the organization through Patreon are a huge funding stream. The lowest level of support is $5 per month. And since there are over 5,800 patrons, even if all those people contributed the lowest amount, that’s more than $29,000 per month.

Is Lee Asher Vegan?
Lee eats a vegan diet. He’s in his 30s and has loved animals all his life. He believes eating vegan aligns with his mission to rescue animals and improve the world. As an animal welfare advocate and founder of The Asher House, he was shocked to learn of animal cruelty that occurs in the meat and dairy industry. So, he saw the vegan lifestyle as a benefit to animals and himself.
Why Did The Asher House Move the Sanctuary?
The Asher House moved the sanctuary from where it was initially because they outgrew it. The house was too small, and he couldn’t rescue any more animals unless he found a larger space. The original sanctuary was 25 acres, and the new sanctuary is 240 acres.
What Is Asher House Wellness?
Asher House Wellness is CBD oil for pets and humans. It’s an ingestible oil that contains hemp phytocannabinoids. Lee is the co-founder of the brand that he’s passionate about after suffering from back issues himself and watching one of his dogs suffer in pain. He says that these incidents led to the development of the product, which can help adult dogs and humans thrive. In addition, their manufacture their products in the United States.
