The Best Dog Walking Apps

Whether you’re looking for extra cash or searching for someone to walk your dog, here are our picks for the best dog walking apps.

Rover – The Uber of Dog Walking

As one of the most popular dog-walking apps online today, Rover remains the go-to app for many individuals. Because of its popularity and mass marketing, Rover offers walks, dog sitting, doggie daycare and boarding. Aside from its added services, its walking features remain some of the best.

Rover allows owners to track their dog’s location using the built-in GPS, ensuring owners get some piece of mind. Rover provides great dog walker profiles and mandatory criminal background checks. Perhaps the only downside to this app may in fact be that some of the dog walkers aren’t what you would call “professionals.” Most of the people on Rover are people looking to get more exercise and make a bit of cash on the side. Still, with profile reviews, you can easily see how your local walkers stack up

Wag – Dog Walking Activity

Similar to Rover, Wag provides some added features its rival does not, like providing a weekly activity report for users and requiring mandatory dog-walking training for all handlers. And similar to Rover, Wag offers more than just walking. It provides house dog sitting, daycare and boarding.

With comprehensive background reviews and thousands of user-reviewed dog walkers, you can find quality candidates to walk, sit and care for your dog. However, unlike Rover, you cannot always pick your walker of choice, and from the reviews, the customer support isn’t as stellar as it should be.

Barkly – On Demand Dog Walking

Similar to both Wag and Rover, Barkly provides you the opportunity to set recurring dog walks to ensure your dog gets in its needed exercise for the day. Only downside to Barkly is its only available in the metro areas of Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Baltimore. Still, Barkly does track your dog’s location and allows walkers to notify you when your animal pees or poops. More important is all walkers are bonded and insurance to avoid any accidents or mishaps along their walk.

So if you’ll be away from your home or feeling a bit sick to walk your dog, any of these apps can provide some added relief knowing you’re only a few clicks away from getting the best walking services around.

Cait Morton of HypePets

Meet Cait - a lifelong animal lover who has had furry (and scaly) companions by her side since childhood. She's had it all, from family pets to caring for class reptiles during school breaks, to even owning her first horse at just 12 years old. She swears that her late soul dog, Mocha, helped her survive her Business Management degree. Cait has spent over a decade working in animal shelters, doing everything from taking care of furry friends to running the show as an assistant manager, to providing guidance as a board member. She's got a serious case of the animal welfare bug, and she's not afraid to use it! When she's not busy saving animals, Cait is known for being one-half of the 'Mortons on the Move' RV and travel blog and YouTube channel. She stars alongside her husband, Tom, on the Discovery and PBS TV show 'The RVers'. She and Tom, along with their two rescue dogs Luna and Solar, travel full-time by RV and explore all that the world has to offer. Cait started HypePets because of her passion for pets and her love for rescue dogs and cats. She wants to make a difference by helping new adopters ease their furry friends' transition into their new homes. So join her in the wonderful world of pets, and let's make a difference together!
